A man who fell from scaffolding while putting new siding on a home in St. John’s is not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to a home on Crosbie Road about mid-day today, following a call to 911 from the homeowners.

The worker had fallen from scaffolding erected on one side of the residence.

He was not at the highest point on the scaffolding and fell about “four or five feet,” according to one of the home’s owners. While the fall was not estimated to be far, the homeowner said an ambulance was called to have the worker checked out for any injuries.

Strapped to a spinal board, the worker was loaded onto a responding ambulance. The vehicle remained at the scene for at least 10 minutes thereafter.

Thank you for sharing this article. I hope that he is okay! What kind of safety equipment can be added to this job field so that these things don't happen anymore. Thank you for your help!

Aren't these workers supposed to have fall protection gear when working on scaffolding? There will likely be be an investigation and the home owner or the company the man was employed with could be facing stiff fines if they failed to provide the proper safety equipment when working on scaffolding.

OHS regulations state you must be tied off after 10 feet.. The lanyard used extends to 10 feet when stressed. Thus a tie off would be pointless.

why does SJRFD have to send their staff to these minor incidents. Paramedics are far more qualified to deal with injuries on tjis nature. It's no wonder our taxes are so high having to pay for all this superfluos "service". Our city could safely function with 1/2 the number of firefighters that are presently employed.

Keep that comment in mind when it's one of your children, Moe. Emergency services don't have all the facts when dispatching so need to insure bases are covered.

because they are "first responders" and because they are located throughout the city and are trained to handle many different kinds of emergencies they can, and often do, reach an accident scene before other first responders. Some times firefighters can and do give emergency medical care before Paramedics can reach the scene.
