The Department of Fisheries and Oceans reminded the public today that the 2012 recreational groundfish fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador will run from July 21-Aug. 12, with a fall fishery from Sept. 22-Sept. 30.
The recreational groundfish fishery will occur in all Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) fishing areas around Newfoundland and Labrador, which includes 2GH and 2J3KL (east and northeast coasts), 3Ps (south coast), 3Pn (southwest coast), and 4R (west coast).
The public is reminded that fishing is not permitted in the Eastport and Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Areas (MPA).
Management measures will be the same as in 2011, including a daily bag limit of five groundfish per day (including cod) and a maximum boat limit of 15 fish when three or more people are fishing. This includes tour boats.
