To Tara Oram, a Canadian Country Music Award nomination is not only recognition — it’s inspiration.
Oram, a native of Hare Bay, has been nominated for the 2012 Canadian Country Music Award for Female Artist of the Year, along with Victoria Banks, Terri Clark, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Michelle Wright.
“Being nominated is always a huge blessing, and to know that you are respected and recognized by your peers within the industry is very inspiring to keep going in the business,” Oram told The Telegram. “Awards and nominations are always icing on the cake— and I love cake and icing!
“The feeling never gets old, and to be in the same category as Terri, Carolyn, Victoria and Michelle is beyond a dream come true.”
Oram, who earned fame after making it to the Top Six on “Canadian Idol” and later with her reality television show “The Tara Diaries,” has had a big year: in addition to performing in support of her latest album, “Revival,” Oram is a judge on YTV talent show “The Next Star.”
The Juno nominee and East Coast Music Award winner said while nominations are always wanted, they’re never expected.
“After leaving an awards show, I always find myself on Cloud Nine, win or lose, from how supportive country music fans are to the artists they love.”
Johnny Reid is leading the Canadian Country Music Awards nominations this year with a total of eight, while Dean Brody has seven.
Terri Clark, Gord Bamford, Jason Blaine, The Stellas and Hey Romeo also have multiple award nominations.
The Canadian Country Music Awards will be broadcast live on CBC TV from Saskatoon’s Credit Union Centre on Sept. 9 at 8:30 Newfoundland time.
