A St. John’s couple were granted bail Thursday afternoon after being charged with trafficking drugs.

Husband and wife William and Denise Whalen were arrested Wednesday after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary searched a residence on Brigade Street in St. John’s.

The police seized prescription pills — including OxyContin, morphine, Ritalin and Percocet — and more than $5,000 in cash. Police also seized about $4,000 of what they said appears to be stolen clothing.

The couple has been charged with possession of oxycodone, morphine and Ritalin for the purposes of trafficking. Bail was set at $2,000 each for the Whalens.

Denise Whalen, 36, was released on bail Thursday afternoon while William Whalen, 39, was due to appear in court today, allowing time for bail arrangements to be made.

Denise Whalen is due back in court Aug. 29.
