Carmanville RCMP are trying to figure out who is responsible for damaging a road sign along Route 330 in central Newfoundland.

Police suspect the sign was damaged in the middle of May, according to a news release issued Friday evening. The sign was detached from its post — police added that the post was almost ripped from the ground.

The sign belongs to the non-profit Ragged Harbour River Conservation Group. Replacing the sign is estimated to cost $1,000.

Carmanville RCMP are asking anyone with information relating to the incident to call the local police detachment at 534-2686 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be provided anonymously through the Crime Stoppers website at nlcrimestoppers.com.

That sign was damaged in May of this year. There's a major Highways directional sign (or what's left of it) opposite Tim Horton's in Kelligrews. Bad enough it's disgraceful to observe, but it's been like it for two years at least.

IF this happened in May, why are we only hearing about it now? Honestly? Can the RCMP at least pretend to try?
