A 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old female were arrested Saturday night in Mount Pearl on multiple assault charges.

Adam Jonathon Hickey and the 17-year-old (who cannot be identified) both made separate court appearances in St. John's this morning.

Police responded to a tip concerning an assault already in progress at 10 p.m., according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary overnight report.

Hickey faces 10 charges relating to Saturday's alleged events — three for assault, one for assault with a weapon (a knife), three for uttering threats, two for recognizance breaches, and another for failing to comply with a probation order.

He remains in police custody and is due to appear in court on Monday for a bail hearing.

The female youth has been charged with assault, resisting arrest, assaulting an officer, escaping police custody, causing a disturbance, and breaching the conditions of a youth sentence.

She was released on an undertaking. Her next scheduled youth court appearance is on Aug. 21.

I was out that night watching, it was taken care of quickly. I don't think it could have been done any better.

I said it before and will do so again; Simms and company have to do something about the amount of ctime in Mount Pearl. Crime is on the rise and they sit and do nothing about it.

Guess who's heading for a life of crime? Hickey is nineteen and already is a menace to society. Now is the time to get this piece of crap of the streets and send a message to other "would be Hickey's".....ten years in the slammer for offence # 1. And please don't tell me he was physically and sexually abused as a child....sick of hearing it. As for the seventeen year old....keeping their identities secret because they are underage is a green light to them. We need desperately to change our laws to combat out of control crime and start protecting law abiding citizens.

Not that I care about the 19 year old's feelings, but I find the Telegram grossly hypocritical about their comment poilicy. If I said some politician, well-known person, or a union quack a "piece of crap" such as the not-so "original townie" named of the 19 year old, the good ol Telegram would strike the entire comment. I suppose thats only fair, those poor well-knowns have very tender skins it seems; goes without saying but the public eye is for the thick skinned or for those who can actually condiser the source of criticism before they decide to be upset about it first. As for political watcher...its Simms fault is it??? Of course its not the parents, the school or legal systems...no no not at all....its definitely the public in general, we just allow it and fret over a criminal's rights...I'm sorry but if you want to live outside the law you've already forfeited your rights.

Does this sound familiar to anybody? Doing business today with tomorrows criminals. Our current system, definitely, does not work. Certainly time for major changes.
