Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Corner Brook Interfaith Cottages, both in Corner Brook, will receive $2.1 million in new equipment and upgrades, the provincial government announced today.

The Corner Brook hospital will receive $1.8 million in new equipment, including scope and equipment replacements, orthopedic equipment, MRI upgrades and four new dialysis machines, as well as $200,000 to renovate three rooms for bariatric (weight-loss surgery) patients.

Upgrades to walkways and roadways at the Corner Brook Interfaith Cottages will cost $75,000.

Health and Community Services Minister Susan Sullivan said the funding will improve health-care services.

“These facilities provide vital health and long-term care services to the residents of Corner Brook and surrounding communities,” Sullivan said in a news release.

“This funding will help ensure these services are delivered as effectively and efficiently as possible.”

Jason, I'm suspecting that the reason why Newfoundland and Labrador could be at least $500 million in the red for 2012 and even $1 billion in the red for 2013 despite crude oil futures higher than 2007 resulting in $500 million surplus is all due to money being diverted to the Muskrat Falls project Therefore, I'm starting to believe your suspicions are correct, and even Gerry Byrne may have been right all along. Another thing, if Newfoundland and Labrador doesn't clean up their financial act, I might move back or hope that Dunderdale will be recalled and removed as Premier.

how about a comment on the new Corner Brook hospital that seems to have mysteriously been put on hold with no explanation after millions already spent on site? or is all that money being quietly funneled up to muskrat? why drop money into a hospital scheduled to close within 5 years?
