Clarenville RCMP have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a home invasion that allegedly involved bear spray.
Shaun Garvey appeared in Clarenville provincial court on Monday and has been remanded in police custody, according to a news release issued by the RCMP.
On July 14, police responded to a home invasion in the community where a 59-year-old man was allegedly subdued with what was initially believed to have been bear spray. Two male suspects were said to have entered the home.
Garvey is facing seven charges — robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, discharge of a volatile substance, break and enter, disguise with intent, and a pair of failure to comply with a probation order charges. He is due back in court Aug. 23.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Clarenville RCMP.
