The Beaumont Hamel is out of service again.

Transportation and Works says the ferry was taken off the Portugal Cove-Bell Island run after an electrical issue was identified Tuesday evening.

The vessel is now being examined by an expert contractor. The MV Flanders is maintaining the service on a load and go basis.

A spokesman said a new system that monitors electrical fluctuations alerted the crew of the problem last night. The system was installed during recent repairs and upgrades.

This is just the latest trouble with the Beaumont Hamel.

It was put out of commission for about month-and-a-half on May 30, after it lost reverse propulsion and collided with the dock in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's.

On Friday morning, it was taken out of service for a couple of hours due to a problem with its bow thruster.

Transportation and Works says it will provide additional information as soon as possible about when the MV Beaumont Hamel will resume service.

Where's my sub money for taxing the bus to work everyday, so why should my tax dollars go towards your transporation service to get off the island and go to work, what waste of money for a dying place, time to move of the island!!!!!!!!!

I drive a Dodge..the most unreliable pos on the road and this ship breaks down even more then that..who made it anyway? We are an oil rich province and even though we will be having an artificial pre planned deficit of 1 billion dollars in the near "pre union contract" future lets buy two new boats and be done with it for the love of god.

It's time to close down Bell Island. If you want to live there, find your own way back and forth. Non Bell Island taxpayers (like us residents of St. John's) can't be expected to pay for a few thousand people who want to live cheaper at our expense. I bet if the residents had to pay out of their own pocket it would be a ghost town in the blink of an eye.

Perhaps spending the money on a bridge in the last 15 years would counter all the costs being spend... just a suggestion

How about some new Boats? Do anyone even read these comment's about Ferry problem's? What's going to happen next. The Beaumont was taken out of service AGAIN because it was taking on water. When are the People of the Transportation and Works going to WAKE UP. Surprised that it's not sunk yet. People of Bell Island need a Better service then this... This is going on WAY to long..
