Few details available concerning discovery in field next to McDonald’s restaurant

Human remains were found in a large field next to a McDonald’s restaurant on Topsail Road in Paradise Wednesday afternoon.

The discovery of the remains was made approximately 4:20 p.m. according to Const. Talia Murphy of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

Murphy said the RNC’s K-9 unit assisted in the discovery of the remains.

Officers on the scene were focused on an area located approximately 30 metres east of the McDonald’s parking lot, a short distance from the backyard fences of homes on Canterbury Drive.

A body bag laid out flat was wheeled away from the scene on a stretcher shortly before 7 p.m. It was then lifted into a police van, which then drove away from the parking lot.

Murphy could not confirm whether the remains discovered were of a male or female, and said she did not have information on why police were searching the area.

The police spokeswoman said it was too early in the investigation to determine how long the human remains had been in the field.

Present at the scene of the investigation Wednesday were the RNC’s major crimes unit, street patrol officers and the forensic identification section.

Most of the open field located next to McDonald’s was cordoned off with police tape, covering an area of approximately 50 metres by 50 metres.

The field generally consists of tall grass and scattered small shrubs, with trees situated between the residential fences and the area in which officers appeared to be focusing their attention.

Officers were observed taking measurements and filming video at the scene.

Police were still conducting their investigation at the site as of 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Murphy said the RNC’s investigation into the discovery of the human remains is continuing.

Sideburns? What will those crazy cops get up to next, bell bottoms and long hair?!?! Mr Corner Brook, get out of the 60's. I agree with ridiculous, what a silly thing to comment on in a story involving the loss of someone's life. I'm friends with several police officers and know that they do a great job. It's very easy to people to criticize when they are spectators, try doing their job for a day and see how easy it is.

You think that either of you could do a better job being a Police Officer? Why not keep the negative comments to yourselves and give it a try

I guess now that it is the RNC and not the RCMP involved , we may find out what happened and the case just may get solved.

Just admiring the officer's sideburns in this photo. How unprofessional is that? If the RNC actually wants to be respected as an actual police force, they could start by at least trying to look the part! Ridiculous!

Why does sideburns make this man look unprofessional? Are you really that narrow minded to believe this? Now I understand why you don't post under your real name...I'd be ashamed too.
