The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary continues to investigate a residential fire on Kings Hill Road in Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s that destroyed a home early Thursday morning.

The RNC and members of the Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s Volunteer  Fire Department arrived at the scene at approximately 2:45 a.m. to find the house engulfed in flames.

The family was already out of the house by the time the fire department arrived. The family dog remains unaccounted for.

The fire department didn’t get a chance to interview the family, who quickly left the scene.

“They disappeared so quickly, I never had a chance to talk to them,” said Fire Chief Mike Raine.

Firefighters worked all night to put out the fire and by noon, all hot spots were extinguished.

The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
