Attempted robbery at Carbonear home
A 32-year-old Carbonear man is expected to appear in court today in St. John’s to face charges stemming from a robbery in Carbonear.
The 28-year-old victim was in his home’s garage in Carbonear when a man entered and accused him of owing money, report the Trinity-Conception RCMP.
There was a struggle during which the suspect attempted to steal jewelry the victim was wearing.
The suspect also pulled something from the waistband of his pants which the victim knocked from his hand.
Witnesses arrived, and the suspect was told to leave.
Before leaving, the suspect retrieved what appeared to be a handgun.
Police arrived and determined the suspect had returned to his home.
The area was cordoned off, police called in the Emergency Response Team, police dogs, crisis negotiators and incident command, and then officers contacted the suspect in his home by telephone.
He surrendered without incident.
The victim suffered minor injuries during the struggle.
RCMP searched two residences and seized a small pistol air gun they suspect was used in the robbery.
A .38 caliber revolver, a shotgun and other long weapons were seized.
