A 27-year-old man has been charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order following an RNC traffic stop in the Empire Avenue area of St. John’s during which officers discovered the man had a rifle in his vehicle.

The man is under a Canada-wide order prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

The man was also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and was given several summary offence tickets.

Police seized a can of bear spray as well as the firearm, and the man’s vehicle was impounded.

The man was released and given a court date.

Bear spray? Considering the events of the past week I think a little more investigating should have been done.
