The son of the woman whose body was found in a Paradise field last week is behind bars.

Joseph Rice appeared in provincial court in St. John's Friday, five days after he was arrested in Halifax.

A warrant had been issued for Rice's arrest in March on suspicion that he had been distributing child pornography.

The 37-year-old faces two charges — possessing child pornograph and distributing child pornography.

No further details were released.

After a brief appearance in court, Rice's case was set over until Monday for a bail hearing.

Police are not alleging Rice's arrest is connected to his mother's death.

The body of Patricia Rice was found next to the McDonald's on Topsail Road on July 25.

RNC confirmed the case is now a homicide investigation.

Frank, you have absolutely no idea. You think it's okay to watch child porn? Everytime someone watches/views child porn, that child is re-victimized. There's no excuse for it and anyone that engages in watching it has problems and it's just a matter of time. Banjaxed: I say get their picture out there and name them. The public needs to know who they are as these guys aren't just watching it - there's a real interest in it and it's just a matter of time before they act on it.

Frank, likes the kiddie porn do ya? Without a market, Frank, the producers would not be in business. Before setting the man free, Frank, why not make him participate in sex acts without his consent and sell photos of it? Or would you think there would be something wrong with that, Frank?

Very Very sloppy reporting.I have read this article through twice and can find absolutely NO REASON WHATSOEVER to mention Mr. Rice was related to the murder victim.....what is the point of dragging that poor family through more grief.I am hardly defending Mr. Rice here because I rate Child pornographers 1 step below sewer rats , having said that why did they just Name the suspect and charge him.......The only reason that the charges and the murder were linked is journalistic sensationalism that reeks of the National Enquirer and other tabloids....Shame on you guys .....Shame Shame Shame
