With a recent string of accidents along an important corridor connecting Eastern Newfoundland to the rest of the province, perhaps now is the time for every single Newfoundlander and Labradorian to pressure the government to build two or three trunk roads. One trunk road should be build along or around Terra Nova National Park and a similar road along the Avalon Isthmus. As long as these mishaps and natural disasters occur, and Dunderdale continues to do nothing about it, every single Newfoundlander and Labradorian will suffer due to her incompetence.

There needed to be better control of the scene, the scene being more than just the main accident. There was miles of traffic at a dead stop with zero police presence at the ends. Cars had to skid to a halt with no warning and stay stopped in stifling 28 degree heat. Many elderly and children in cars with no air conditioning and no idea what was going on. Little cell reception or radio reception in the area. Whoever was in charge needs a talking to.

Brad, we were coming around a turn in a passing lane... you can't see around corners unless you are a wizzard. Trust me there was a lot of attention being paid to the road. I was the co-driver. Perfect road conditions except for the many idiot drivers. Maybe you were one of them.

I had someone who was stuck in that line of traffic. They said that they were where the passing lane is before you get to Port Blandford (westward).. A few people pulled their vehicles out in the passing lane because there were idiots passing the long line of traffic that was STOPPED in the outside lane, There were more cars that went out into the eastbound lane to go around those! That isn't paying attention to the road! Common sense would tell you that with traffic is at a standstill and nothing travelling eastward, something must have happened up ahead.

It is the federal government that is responsible for the lack of funding . It is a National Park and within their boundaries. As long as Harper is in power we will get nothing done here.

When will our Department of Highways (or is it Parks Canada in this case) finally wise up and create a few passing lanes in the park? I know, I know, everybody's always in a hurry, but with the abundance of trailers & motorhomes going through Terra Nova Park and all the hills they have to climb, passing lanes are needed. It's about maintaining traffic flow as much as it is about keeping drivers happy. Constantly speeding up & slowing down is dangerous on any road, and installing some passing lanes to allow motorists to get around these slower-moving vehicles is the easiest way to reduce accidents like this one. Terra Nova park is the longest stretch of the TCH not to have a passing lane. There's passing lanes in Gros Morne, so why there are none in Terra Nova is a mystery.

Perhaps one should be paying attention to the road and driving for the conditions allowed. Maybe then people wouldnt be skidding to a halt with no warning...
