Corner Brook RCMP are continuing a search today for a missing Cox’s Cove man who failed to return from berry picking Monday evening in an area off Country Road, beyond a mink farm in the community.
Fifty-four-year-old Alphaeus Payne was reported overdue by his family around 11:30 p.m. Monday after his vehicle was located near the mink farm.
An RCMP Police Services Dog and the Bay of Islands Search and Rescue Team were immediately deployed and spent the night searching the nearby vicinity. At daylight this morning, the search was expanded to include an aerial search conducted by a helicopter arranged through Emergency Measures.
Around 8:30 a.m., the Deer Lake Search and Rescue Team responded to a call for assistance with its mobile command unit and 10 team members. Firemen from the Cox’s Cove Fire Department and citizens from the community are also assisting with the search efforts.
