Marijuana seized in Corner Brook

Citizen - provided you carry on like a normal citizen - and by that I mean interacting with others, going to the grocery store, etc, etc you almost certainly are dealing with people who are under the influence of marijuana and you just don't realize it. Sometimes it's the people you least suspect: lawyers, nurses, taxi drivers, etc. Every day in corner brook there are people driving on the roads stoned, not causing accidents. I'm not condoning it with that statement - I'm just telling you how it ABSOLUTELY is. 26 grams is wasting time - if you're going to bother, try to get suppliers/big dealers. Make a go of it and not 2 or 3 a year, there's lots of pot around, but the police don't bother because it can't (and doesn't) work. If they truly got rid of the pot, they wouldn't have things like this to waste time/taxpayer money on in an attempt to boast their usefulness. No pot = less police, so why even REALLY strive for that? Do -just- enough to make it look like you're trying. Prohibition doesn't work (see: history, from the apple in eden if you believe that stuff, to alcohol in the USA just last century). This news article is a great testament to just how much taxpayer money is being wasted on this garbage. Next time you have to wait for a nurse at the hospital, remember all the sweet money being poured into getting grams off the street instead of being poured into our healthcare. Next time you see an undereducated child (or stressed out, overworked, enormous classroom having teacher) you remember that YOUR tax-dollars are being spent to fund "drug task forces", busy taking 26 grams off the street.

I hadn't intended on saying anything about this news story, as mostly all the commenters said it for me and very eloquently.. Then I read this moralistic pile of rubbish from one calling himself "citizen"..FYI, The relative level of intoxication from marijuana is considerably less than that of alcohol or prescription pills. It's uninformed and undereducated people like you that has kept this innocuous drug from being legalized..As others have said, it's long overdue.

Weed may be less(?) harmful than the heavier drugs, but people I have seen who are smoking it are as silly as all get out. I can't help but shudder at the results if these people who have been smoking a 'harmless' substance get behind the wheel of a car. If they don't have the brain power to carry on a sensible conversation while under the influence, how in the name of all that's holy are they able to make split second decisions while driving? Keep all drugs off the street. I only wish the police had more resources to get the dealers and hopefully the distributors would be caught as well.

  I never understand why this is news...unless its because media wants to show how it takes a provincial and federal police force to catch a 20 yr old with less than an Oz of grass. Congrats. Surely we are all safer. We need less resources put into pursuing weed, not more. The good that could come from the $ saved would far outweigh any negative that pot has on society, if there are any.

  Citizen, how is your exact arguement any different than alcohol. Drunks are worse drivers, alcohol ruins familys, and causes long term health problems. There hasn't been one health related death to date caused by Marijuana.. But yet you can buy alcohol at any convenience store for decades.. I am sure you drink alcohol every once in a while. You should look Alcohol up in the dictionary and let me know what it says. Its a known form of poison. Man made chemical. Where does marijuana come from again? I forgot, maybe you can remind me. It's ignorant headed people like you that cause a lot of grief in the world because your views don't accept it. Maybe you should do some research and let me know what you come up with and bring a valid arguement to the table..

Oh come on! The police gotta smarten up in the world, it's not the 90's anymore, seriously punishing people for marijuana? and also contraband ciggerettes...what else is next? Go catch the murderers, the stabbers, and the harsher drugs!

Give the guy a break. It's less harmful than alcohol as long as it's not laced. I would love to see Newfoundland as the first province to legalized marijuana.

Good to see that the RNC/RCMP Task Force are keeping our streets drug free and safe.... 26 WHOLE grams of marijuana off of the streets, WOW! My tax dollars are being well spent. Meanwhile ACTUAL narcotics like cocaine are flooding the streets and making their way to younger users... only a matter of time before the streets are flooded with crystal meth. Get real, and people smarten up, the streets aren't as clean and drug free as the RNC/RCMP would have you believe!

  Well, I can sleep better at night now. Thanks to the boys in blue for getting such a terrible Kid off the streets. 26 grams of grass... And this is news? Maybe it should be - for a waste of tax payer resources.
