Newfoundland’s unemployment rate dropped slightly during July to 12.8 per cent, compared to 13 per cent in June, according to the latest figures released by Statistics Canada.
The rate of unemployed in St. John’s also fell slightly in July to 7.1 from 7.3 per cent.
Canada’s national unemployment rate was 7.3 per cent in July, up slightly from 7.2 per cent in June. The number of people working in the country last month was about 17.4 million, with 1.37 million unemployed.
The youth unemployment rate among 15 to 24 year olds was 14.3 per cent, among men 25 and older, it was 6.4 per cent and women 25 and older, 5.8 per cent.
