UPDATE: Stabbing in downtown St. John's

A 30-year-old-man is in hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed near Harbour Side Park, shortly after 3 p.m. report the RNC.

The victim and suspect did not know each other, and the incident is described as a random act. 

The RNC have a 35-year-old man in custody in relation to the assault.


The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is at the scene of a reported stabbing near the Harbour Side Park in downtown St. John’s.

Members of patrol services, forensic and major crime investigators have begun an investigation and a portion of Water Street is closed from Prescott Street to Cochrane Street. Harbour Drive is also closed from Clift’s Baird’s Cove to Prescott Street.

The RNC said It is very early in the investigation and further details will be released when they become available.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary made a dramatic arrest on Harbour Drive in downtown St. John’s about 3:30 p.m.

Several police cars, along with the mounted unit, were on the scene, where witnesses say, a man was arrested.

The man, who was said to look to be in his 30s, was pinned against the barbwire fence, across the street from Atlantic Place, and cuffed.

He was placed in a police car, which drove away shortly after.

The incident held up traffic on Harbour Drive for a few minutes.

Officers remained at the scene to question a handful of people.

It happened just minutes after two ambulances passed by.

    Makes me wonder if we should move outside the city and leave it for the dirtbags. Problem is there are places outside the city that are having their problems too.
