Six students from Newfoundland have made the 2011-12 dean's list at the University of New Brunswick faculty of engineering.

They are Matthew Power from Clarenville,  Greg Bailey from Gander, Sarah Dominie and Ryan Dyke from Pasadena, Mollie Browne from Placentia and Eric Gabriel from Stephenville.

These students are among 276 in the faculty of engineering who have earned a place on the dean's list.

David Coleman, the dean of engineering, said the students who qualified for the list attained a sessional grade-point average of at least 3.7 or A- for the academic year.

During the 2011-12 academic year, 1174 students were enrolled UNB Fredericton’s undergraduate programs in chemical, civil, computer, electrical, geological, geomatics, mechanical and software engineering.

Congratulations to the engineering students from Newfoundland who made the Dean's List at the University of New Brunswick. It is great Public Relations, not just for the University, but for the individuals who receive recognition. Other universities have the same option if they want to use it. Kudos to UNB.

This is great for those students but not necessary as a news story. I think someone at the telegram is tied to one of these students let them take out a full page ad congratuating them but it is not news worthy for the public. MUN is a fantastic university but I don't see the telegram doing stories on who made the deans list there.I could see if UNB was some world renown university but I don't think it is.

Why are students from UNB getting a news article while the accomplishments and successes of students at our provincial university go ignored? Time to look at your readership, Telegram, and write accordingly.

Why is this a news item?? It's a great accomplishment, sure. But what about all the other Newfoundlandlers who are on the dean's list at MUN or any other University for that matter...My guess is that someone at the Telegram has a kid at UNB.

No offence, UNB is a joke university. There's a reason why myself and plenty others left that place for better schools (e.g. MUN and DAL)

How come you have not reported how many are on the Dean's list @ Memorial for all faculties? Especially Engineering which also has a state of the art facility.

    I wonder

...so do other newfoundlanders in Rochester and Toronto...what is different between this set of groups and other groups across Canada? I dont think it's necessary to applaude this group of newfoundlanders when there are others across Canada doing the same. It's nice knowing that there are newfoundlanders out there getting top marks, but is it necessary to have it shared on this website? Don't you think some people may feel bad about themselves because of this post? Some people may feel under recognized because they are not mentioned. Think twice. act once. I am not saying I have top marks. If I ever do, I dont think I want to be mentioned here. #justsaying.
