The Department of Transportation and Works is advising motorists that there will be brief intermittent traffic delays on the Outer Ring Road in St. John's for a period of 14 days beginning Thursday, due to approved blasting activity.

The Outer Ring Road between Topsail Road Interchange and Thorburn Road interchange will be closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic during blasts. Blasting will typically take place two to four times a day, with road closure lasting 10 to 15 minutes each time. City Sand & Gravel is carrying out this blasting as part of operations at its quarry near the Outer Ring Road.

To help maintain traffic flow, the province says blasts and road closures will not take place during peak traffic hours from 7 to 9 a.m., 12 noon to 2 p.m, and 4-6 p.m.  Blasting may occur at any time outside of those peak traffic hours.

Finally! no, not the blasting...but, a way to curb the dump truck races on the ORR. It's madness as the black ones can do at least 160km/hr. while the red ones must have restrictive governors because they seem to top out at 140km/hr. Gargage trucks are left trailing behind in the dust and dodging rocks falling off the dumps as they can't get much beyond 120km/hr. Gravel, plastics and rubbish line the sides of the ORR and the speed is insane. SLOW DOWN!
