Nineteen-year-old Ian Williams of Happy Valley-Goose Bay will appear in provincial court in that Labrador town this afternoon to face charges related to an armed robbery.

Monday, shortly after 10:30 p.m., a man carrying a weapon entered the Labrador Mini Mart at 40 Grenfell St. and demanded money and cigarettes.  The suspect wore a white hooded sweatshirt and a shirt covering most of his face.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes, he fled the store on foot.

The RCMP Police dog services team was called to the scene within minutes and was able to track the suspect to a nearby residence on Cartwright Road where he was then arrested without incident and taken into custody.

Williams is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and wearing a disguise to commit a criminal act.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery are encouraged to call the RCMP at Happy Valley/Goose Bay Detachment at (709) 896-3383.
