.....

The Edmonton Police Service has released the name of a man who was shot and killed Monday in a parking lot in the area of Jasper Avenue and 113 Street as Dale Maloney, 33, reported to be originally from the Goulds area of St. John’s.

Police in Edmonton say his death has been deemed a homicide. An autopsy confirmed he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

“It appears that the victim and suspect(s) did not know each other, and the fatal shooting was precipitated by a verbal argument,” the police said in a prepared statement.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate.

Maloney’s family in St. John’s has apparently been inundated with media telephone calls since his death and a spokesperson said today the family doesn't wish to speak publicly.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.

It is tough and saddening to give condolences from a way distance to the family and friends for a man whose heart was with life. You have mine.

My heart goes out to the family and friends. May God be with you in your time of need. Another Alberta senseless act. I have been to Newfoundland and people are friendly there. I would advise people from Newfoundland to stay there. Do not move "Out West". Off your island people are not the same. The extra money is not worth you losing your culture. As a rule the new Canadians are taking over our country. And they bring there rules and laws. As for the police, "They are doing the best job for the manpower they have available, I tip my hat to them, job well done." This is a clear act of violence and disregard for human life. This is not an accident. Should we consider a different penalty for those involved.
