Fire crews in St. John's responded to a blaze at a residential home on Empire Avenue Monday evening.

According to Shift Supt. Don Byrne, the St. John's Regional Fire Department received a call shortly after 9:30 p.m. concerning a fire at 484 Empire Avenue. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire. Flames and smoke were observed coming from the second floor of the two-storey home.

Byrne said the fire was contained to the second floor and took approximately 15 minutes to control. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of 10:15 p.m. Monday. Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, paramedics, and Newfoundland Power also responded to the incident.
