Naval Reserve sailors conducting small boat exercises in St. John’s harbour and surrounding area until Aug. 31 will be using signal flare devices for training purposes.
A news release notes that only yellow and green flares, along with paraflares, will be used to avoid confusion with marine distress signals.
Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Cabot, Naval Reserve Division, is hosting the national exercise involving 55 Naval Reserve sailors from across Canada.
The exercises are being carried out in conjunction with Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, and are designed to enhance the emergency response and domestic safety capabilities of the Naval Reserve.
