A 43-year-old man from Corner Brook has been charged with a number of driving related criminal offences and court order breaches.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary patrol services received a complaint Saturday around 8:10 p.m. regarding a possible impaired driver in the city.
Within minutes of the complaint, police located the suspect driving on the Lewin Parkway near Mill Road. The driver didn’t stop for police and continued east onto the Trans-Canada Highway, headed in the direction of Deer Lake. The RNC requested assistance from the RCMP.
The Deer Lake and Rocky Harbour RCMP detachments assisted. Around 11:15 p.m., members of the RCMP Rocky Harbour Detachment arrested the accused without incident in the area of Parson's Pond, after it was reported that he drove his vehicle off the road. The accused was conveyed to the Bonne Bay Health Care Centre for observation and was turned over to RNC in Norris Point.
The man has been charged with impaired driving, have a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, flight from police and breaching three court orders issued by courts in Grand Prairie, Alta.
The RNC is continuing its investigation into the matter.
