RCMP in Hopedale are investigating an assault with a weapon that occurred Thursday shortly after 1 p.m.
While investigating a disturbance reported in a residence in the town, the police found a man had been cut with a knife, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.
The suspect left the scene and ran in the woods. A 33-year-old man from Hopedale was arrested a short time later without incident and has been held in custody until a bail hearing set for Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
The RCMP said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident. Charges against the man include assault with a weapon and breach of an undertaking.
