The Bell Island detachment of the RCMP is continuing to investigate up to 10 separate complaints as a result of the activities of two men on the Island Thursday.

The RCMP said in a release this afternoon, there have been more than 20 criminal charges laid, including numerous counts of mischief to property, assault with a weapon and breaches of probation, along with the charge of attempted armed robbery at Ridgeway Variety Store.

The men allegedy committed assaults with 2x4 lumber. Police believe that alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in these incidents.

Christian Jenkins, 20, and Wayne Boone, 19,  both from Bell Island, appeared in provincial court today and have been remanded into police custody pending a bail hearing next week.

Boone also has an upcoming trial set for Oct. 23 for a previous assault charge.

Thursday's incidents began around 2:15 p.m. when the RCMP on Bell Island received a complaint of possible mischief to property in the Guthro Street area.

Soon after that, calls were made by several others about two men assaulting people and causing damage to property.

Weapons allegedly used include the lumber, a beer bottle and a mini trampoline. Homes, a school and a convenience store were damaged.

The men allegedly demanded money from clerks at a store near Davidson Avenue. The clerks fled the building, and the men reportedly damaged the store with 2x4 pieces of lumber.

Police arrested both accused a short time later.

Police are asking that anyone who has witnessed any of the events under investigation and who has not already spoken to a police officer to contact the Bell Island Detachment of the RCMP at 709-488-3312 or at 1-800-709-RCMP to provide their information.

Please do not blame the Parents - Parents raise up their children the best they can - once they are young adults there are other influences that make you make the choices you make- like Drugs and Alcohol - I suspect this is the case here as brain functions change with substance abuse. They do not need to be crucified - they need help and guidance. Sure they need not get a slap on the hand - they need to know the full extent of the law, however they need help. No normal human being does the thing these young men has done. " Do a Better Job of getting rid of the drug dealers on the Island " I grew up there and I had always said this is the best place in the world to raise children ( I had a happy childhood on Bell Island ) Find out where the drugs are coming from and make examples of those individuals that are trying to get rich on our Children buying drugs and destroying their lives

My wife and I and our two grand children were victims of that rampage on Bell Island. They attacked our car with a 2x4 ,smashing the drivers side mirror off. I quickly sped off , but kept an eye on these idiots ,while my wife called the police. We watched them go into the store with the 2x4. After a few minutes they came out and just calmly walked away up behind the school as if nothing happened. They terrorized those people over there . Being the terrorists that they are , the punishment should be severe.

Our "civilized society" has created a situation where those, who actually commit the crime, have more rights than the innocents affected by it ??? It really is time to crack down on crime and teach those who have no respect for others that their actions have consequences.

Cool.. now you blame it on parenting, Legion and bars!!! I assume you mean their parents spent too much time in bars. That is insane!! Adults get to a point in life where they are aocuntable for their own behavior. There are plenty of role models on BI they can look up to. I agree with 'Its Time', throw the book at them and show our people we are standing up to crime before people end up taking law into their own hands. Time for the JUSTICE system to step up!!

I agree with you that as adults they need to take responsibility for their actions BUT if their parents were around for them when they were kids instead of out beating the path it may have made a difference in their lives.

Umm sorry to contradict here but the parents have nothing to do with this, I personally know the parents of both men and they have other Adult and child offspring who are raised perfectly fine as were the boys. The difference is they, in their own mind, decided to make such stupid decisions!!! There's only so much a parent can do to mold a child, the rest of it is up to the individual offspring.

Dumb and dumber for sure, I offer to help these misguided young men when they get out of jail. Come out to Holyrood we can do an intervention type of thing where you get new shoes and a free harbour tour.

    Its Time

This is outrageous. We keep hearing about increased crime in metro area and it is now time to do something about it. Let’s see if the justice system sets an example of these 2 hoods who decide they were basically going to terrorize a community and everything in their wake. Sick of hearing about how prosperity and oil brings with it crime. It is people that bring the crime and until we do something about it and send the right message it will continue. Time to bring the hammer down on these individuals and stop pussy footing around. We also talk about the youth (and young adults) today and why they cause so much grief. Simple… because our justice system is afraid to deal with them. They commit a crime and are back on the street in no time – why? Does not make sense. We have a facility in Whitbourne that is far below capacity and that is hard to believe considering all the crime we hear about. When are we as a province going to take some accountability for the trend in crime and do something about it?

I think it's time for the people of Bell Island to take a stand! On the day those idiots go to court, the courtroom should be filled to overflowing with residents of Bell Island. Let the judge know that you are all tired of them letting these idiots off with a slap on the wrist! They say it takes a community to raise a child......come on Bell Island, tell them you've had enough!!!!!
