The Henry Goodrich offshore drill rig arrived in Conception Bay South a day ahead of schedule Sunday in preparation for work to determine how a hydraulic cylinder was dropped during onboard work late last month.

A spokesman for the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB) confirmed to The Telegram by email that the rig arrived Sunday.

He said no safety officials from the CNLOPB were on the vessel as of Monday.

Activities on the drill rig cannot resume until the chief safety officer for the board signs off.

The incident of concern happened Aug. 23. The hydraulic cylinder handles the drill string on the rig floor. Operations on the rig have ceased ever since the incident occurred.

The rig is being used by Husky Energy to drill a development well at North Amethyst, a satellite of the White Rose oilfield.

A spokeswoman for Husky previously told The Telegram activities would not resume on the rig until an investigation deemed it was safe to do so.
