Sheshatshiu RCMP found more than they expected in a vehicle when they conducted a traffic stop in North West River Saturday.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle was in possession of a quantity of cocaine and further investigation revealed 22.5 grams of cocaine hidden in the vehicle and on the driver.
Canadian currency in the amount of $1,650 was also recovered and seized along with various drug paraphernalia and a machete.
As a result of the investigation the male driver is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 13.
The RCMP says it recognizes the negative impacts substance abuse has on communities and is committed to disrupting the supply of illegal drugs whenever possible.
