The Department of Transportation and Works advises intermittent traffic delays on the Outer Ring Road will continue daily until Friday due to blasting activity.

Thereafter, delays will not occur daily, but will occur several times per week into the fall.

A news release notes the Outer Ring Road, between Topsail Road Interchange and Thorburn Road interchange, will be closed to both east-bound and west-bound traffic during blasts.

Until Sept. 7, blasting will typically take place two to four times per day. After this time, blasting will take place two to four times per week. Road closures will last 10 to 15 minutes during each blast.

City Sand & Gravel must carry out this blasting as part of operations at its quarry near the Outer Ring Road.

Intermittent blasting will continue until November.

To help maintain traffic flow, blasts and road closures will not take place during the following peak traffic hours: 7: a.m. - 9: a.m.; noon - 2 p.m.; and 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Blasting can occur at any time outside of these peak traffic hours.

Who can read that time restrictions sign approaching it at 100kph? Then there's the Fines Warning but no sign of anybody doing anything outside those hours. But the signs are there to obey the speed limits or else! Why the hell can't they just stop traffic when blasting is in progress?

In any other city in North America would a major highway be completely closed to traffic, intermittently or not. In most cities road construction has to be done at night, in order to minimize the impact on traffic. Not here.........worst kind.
