A murder investigation is underway in Sweden into the death of a 13-year-old girl whose mother is from Lewisporte, with family from the Twillingate area.

Swedish media report that the girl was found dead Saturday inside a block of flats in the Stockholm suburb of Taby.

Two suspects, brothers aged 31 and 28, are in custody. Both the suspects were neighbours of the victim.

The 31-year-old brother apparently was injured after jumping from a window on the third floor of an apartment building trying to avoid police.

No other details are available at this time.

Stay inside your house Jack. Lock the doors, close the windows. Everything is safe inside.

@ Jack. Sweden is one of the safest and most progressive countries in the entire world. To suggest that people should reconsider visiting Sweden because of the actions of a couple of violent losers is assinine. I've been there a few times and will most certainly visit again in the future. It is a wonderful and amazing country. These types of things happen everywhere in the world from time to time.

Alex, murders are not supposed to happen in countries that spend considerable amount of money on social programs, especially Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Germany. Besides, if Sweden was so-called safe, Hannah Bennet would not be killed, and her human rights would not be infringed. Keep in mind that once you end someone's life, you take away another persons right to life.

These days, why does it seem that more and more people with Newfoundland and Labrador roots are now getting killed in other parts of Canada or even other parts of the world? Since Canada is supposed to be one of the world's most respected nations, hostage takings and murders against Canadians abroad, which have been occurring more frequently over the last ten years, are not supposed to happen, especially against Robert Croke in Nigeria and now Hannah Bennet in Sweden. Secondly, since Sweden is supposed to a socially liberal country like this province, and this country spends considerable amount of money on social programs, murders against children, which is a violation of human rights, are not supposed to occur. Until Sweden proves they are a truly socially liberal nation, and makes a diligent effort to crack down on violent crimes, perhaps now is the time for Canadians to think twice before visiting this Northern European nation. Besides, Canadians are supposed to be revered as they respect people from other cultures and countries, not reviled like they are now.
