St. John’s firefighter David Burry has been named vice-president of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) 15th district.

The association said in a news release, announcing the appointment, this marks the first time that this position is being held by a Newfoundlander.

Burry replaces James Fennell of Saint John, N.B., who is retiring after 29 years of dedicated service.

The 15th district represents all IAFF locals east of Ontario.

Burry has served as president of the St. John’s Firefighters Association IAFF Local 1075, a position he stepped down from Tuesday to assume his new role with the IAFF.
