Missing man located in central Newfoundland

A 75-year-old central Newfoundland man, reported overdue after leaving his home to go berry picking, was located by a helicopter late Thursday night.

According to the RCMP, the man was blueberry picking around 2 p.m. in the New Bay Road area of Grand Falls-Windsor and was supposed to return home by 6 p.m. He was reported missing around 8:27 p.m.

The Exploits Search and Rescue Team was dispatched to the area immediately and conducted a search through the night, supported by the RCMP police dog service, and members from Grand Falls Windsor district RCMP.

The man was located around 10 p.m. by a search helicopter from Fire and Emergency Services. He was suffering from hypothermia and was transported immediately to hospital by ambulance.
