A 39-year-old Deer Lake man died Sunday evening after the vehicle he was in rolled over in a ditch about 16 kilometres north of Deer Lake on Route 430, the Viking Trail.

Another man who was in the vehicle received minor injuries.

It is believed at this point that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

Deer Lake RCMP responded to the call about 8:45 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, officers located the 2000 Dodge Caravan on its roof in the ditch. The 39-year-old victim was pinned beneath the vehicle and was confirmed dead. His name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The second man was located outside of the vehicle and was transported to hospital in Corner Brook where he was treated for minor injuries and released the same night. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The van was extensively damaged.

The RCMP is continuing its investigation with assistance from an RCMP collision reconstruction analyst and forensic identification sections.
