Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty was in Bay Bulls this morning to celebrate the fixed-up small craft harbour in the community.

Flaherty said that the Small Craft Harbours program administered by the federal government is important, and he’s pleased to see work completed on the $3.8-million project to do repairs in Bay Bulls.

The money to do work on harbours was committed two years ago when the federal government was looking to spend money to stimulate the economy.

But speaking to media, Flaherty defended the recent moves he’s made to cut the federal budget, which has led to job cuts and service reductions in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Flaherty was supposed to do the Bay Bulls event yesterday, but had to cancel at the last minute due to post tropical storm Leslie.

ah Ches 'bye...a self-made millionaire right? just like Little Man Dan...no government handouts for these entrepreneurs. Just get the Feds to build infrastructure to support your enterprises, then it doesn't count as corporate welfare.
