The RNC was called to Commonwealth Avenue in Mount Pearl Saturday morning after someone found explosives detonators on the street.

The items were safely recovered without incident by the RNC explosive disposal unit and the K9 unit.

However, police have also said that these items are not part of the lot that was stolen from City Sand and Gravel in Paradise late last month.

About 25 pounds of dynamite, detonators and other explosives equipment that were stolen from that business have yet to be recovered.

It is unclear where the material recovered today came from.

The RNC have also said it is concerned the public might find more of these detonators. It is warning people that these devices can be dangerous, and anyone who finds one to should avoid handling it and call police at 729-8000 immediately.

The RNC is continuing its investigation into both incidents.

Until the justice system (mostly judges) starts handing out serious punishments we can expect lots of crime and more of these potentially dangerous situation to innocent people. We have the lowest average of jail time for break and enters nationally compared to every other province. That law is national although we tend to use our own provincial punishment. See the link below about jail sentences. http://oldfraser.lexi.net/publications/forum/1998/march/courts.html

So there were detonators stolen from somewhere else that the public were not notified about? I'm just wondering if there's a monitoring system in place for explosives? You can't get on a plane with a can of hairspray but explosive devices are a free for all?

Hmmmm.... Haven't found who stole the explosives yet eh?? Don't you mean you haven't found someone that can rat out the people?? How about you put people on the case and stop worrying about small issues like speeding on the Pouch Cove bypass road. For those who do not understand what I am saying, drive up and down there a few times. For every time you do NOT see a police car searching for speeding vehicles, I will give you $10.00... But I hate to be negative!!!!

LOL Jeff I agree with you 100%. Scumbag and drug dealers are out there but the cops are too busy on Tobay road harassing mom who is running a few minutes late for violin practice with her kids and is doing 70 km on a four lane highway that has a speed limit of 50 km. Who in the world allocates the resources??? It seems sometimes all that they want to do is harass the hard working tax paying people who already find it hard to get by everday. Never mind the scumbags. And then again if they do happen to catch them, they get better treatment from our system that they hard working tax payer!!! I mean, what the hell is house arrest?? Really, come on people, it seems there is zero deterrant out there.

What is house arrest?? It's a poor excuse for a terrible sentence. Almost all house arrest sentences have conditions of employment, so in turn the criminal on "house arrest" gets a job at a bar/strip club. But I do agree with the fact that the RNC waste way too much time on the wrong things. St. John's and Mt Pearl is not a big place. If people around town (and evidently not just one group of people) have this type of equiment/weapon, or what ever you classify it as it that point, I do not think it would be that hard to track down. All you need is a cop that can investigate. Not a cop that goes around handing speeding tickets for doing 62 in a 50 (and in a 4 lane road). What's more dangerous to the public- god knows how much exlosives c/w detonators and all the related equiment to make a boom boom?? Or Jonny Everyman getting pulled over on the Pouch Cove highway on his way home from work looking forward to his supper and not paying attention to the retarded 60 Km/hr sign and goes a bit over?? Shame on you Jonny and think about what you did.... you are obviously the bigger threat to the dear public.

They are not part of the lot stolen in Paradise???? How many detonators are out there??? How many people are allowed to use detonators?? Maybe somebody should check on their security.
