RNC lay charges for separate assaults, driving offences

A 63-year-old man and 60-year-old woman were both charged with assault overnight following an altercation in Kelligrews.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said there were no injuries. Both were detained at Her Majesty*s lockup until a court appearance.

The RNC street patrol also stopped a  vehicle in the Cashin Avenue area of St. John's. The driver was charged with operating a vehicle without a valid licence, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating a vehicle without a valid registration and operating a vehicle using a cell phone. The driver had more than $18,000 in fines.

The vehicle was impounded and the driver detained at the lockup until a court appearance.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested in the Campbell Avenue area for mischief, being unlawfully in a dwelling, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and causing a disturbance. He was also detained at the lockup overnight.

And, a 40-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer in the Topsail Road, Burgeo Street area, following a complaint from the public.
