A Conception Bay South man was fined $1,000 today after pleading guilty to illegal dumping in the town.
Shawn Hiscock’s case was called in provincial court in St. John’s. The 47-year-old wasn’t present in court, but was represented by his lawyer Robert Regular.
Chief Judge Mark Pike agreed to the amount of the fine on the joint recommendation from lawyers.
Hiscock was charged with releasing waste in violation of the province's Environmental Protection Act. The charge was laid May 15 after Hiscock was captured on a hidden camera dumping waste in a wooded area in C.B.S.
The video was then handed over to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
Town of C.B.S. purchased several surveillance cameras for about $5,000 to help crack down on rampant illegal dump sites in the community.
