There’s another opportunity for people to catch some cod for the winter starting Saturday when the 2012 fall recreational groundfish fishery opens for a week.

The fishery will run from Sept. 22 to Sept. 30.

The fishery will occur in all areas around the province, except in the Eastport and Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Areas.

Management measures will be the same as in 2011, including a daily bag limit of five groundfish per day (including cod) and a maximum boat limit of 15 fish when three or more people are fishing. This includes tour boats.

Fish harvesters are reminded to return to DFO any tags and recapture information. The address and reward value are printed on the tag.

Further details will be found at http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/decisions/fm-2012-gp/atl-026-eng.htm or by calling 709-772-4423.

It,s all B. S. anyways. Now they say the fish weren,t gone now it was the temperature and the shifting Ocean Currents. We as Newfoundlanders should Demand the right to catch a Cod whenever We want and if that doesn,t happen protest and everyone should pick a nice Day and go catch our Cod anyway.
