The Marine Institute’s (MI) Ocean Net will be getting together Friday with volunteers from community groups, divers, youth and government departments to clean up the Topsail beach area in Conception Bay South.
“Protecting our sensitive marine ecosystems and fostering clean oceans is essential in providing the resources our coastal communities depend on,” said Justin Dearing, MI Ocean Net conference co-ordinator. “These cleanups engage a provincewide network of volunteers and communities, while promoting the sustainability, innovation and leadership of our marine environments.”
Activities will begin with a welcoming address at Topsail Beach at 10 a.m. Friday, with a beach cleanup to follow starting at 11 a.m.
Participants will enjoy face painting, a mussel boilup, barbecue and snacks.
All volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, pack a lunch, bring water and wear appropriate clothing in case of changing weather conditions. Gloves and bags will be provided.
