A 23-year-old man from Gander is dead following a motor vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway about two kilometres west of Charlottetown in the area of Terra Nova Park.
According to the RCMP, the man was driving west bound in a Honda Civic and it appears he crossed the centre line into the path of an east-bound transport-truck.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and the 51-year-old transport-truck driver was taken to hospital for observation.
The crash occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. and traffic was down to one lane in the area for several hours. The closed lane is now open, according to police.
Glovertown RCMP are at the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident this morning about two kilometres west of the community of Charlottetown inside Terra Nova National Park on the Trans Canada Highway. Emergency personnel have been on the scene since before 5 a.m. Traffic is down to one lane and there are expected to be delays in the area for hours. Update later.
