The RNC has confirmed that it's investigating a clandestine drug operation in a St. John's home.

Police received a report around 12:30 p.m. today involving a home in the Albany Street area, which led them to cordon off the area.

One person was taken to hospital earlier today with injuries.

RNC bomb disposal technicians are currently on the scene and an investigation is continuing.

RNC uniformed and plain clothes police officers are currently at the scene of what is, at this time, an unknown hazard in the city.

Officers have a house cordoned off with police tape on the corner of Albany Place and Albany Street. Some nearby homes have been evacuated.

Albany Street is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from Blackmarsh Road to Hamilton Avenue Ext.

A neighbour said an ambulance and firefighters were at the residence earlier this morning.

One of my good friends lives on Albany street and this story has been blown way out of proportion. For starters they didn't evacuate half as many houses as was reported, basically it was only the houses adjicent to the house that were evacuated. What police found in the house consisted of 3 marijuana plants and fertilizers , which they assumed were chemicals for drug manufacturing. No charges have even been laid yet. The only reason the police and media haven't said anything to clear it up , is because the truth of the matter makes them look very silly. Its not the city thats out of control, it's our police and media.

The term "clandestine" is used as the RNC & RCMP cannot say what the "chemist" was attempting to prepare. There is no way to actually say this was a meth lab, unless samples of the final product were acquired & tested. As of right now, all that can be proven is that this person had chemicals & equipment in their posession which could potentially be used to manufacture drugs. There was no explosion. Fire rescue responded to the 911 call as all ambulances in the city were tied up. "The Chemist" was removed from the house due to medical issues unrelated/not directly related to chemicals found in the home. Before we begin throwing stones, perhaps we can give this person the benefit of the doubt. Evacuating my house was not fun, but maybe this event was what had to happen for this sick individual to get help. Thanks to all organizations who were involved in securing the area. I understand having the RNC, RCMP, Fire Rescue & HazMat, but why the overkill?? Will Search & Rescue be part of every "clandestine" lab discovery in St. John's & surrounding areas?? Looks like Ms. Dunderdale will have to fork out big bucks for a circus everytime a lab is found. This isn't the first nor the last time this will be happening. Welcome to the real world Newfoundland!

I think we should wait until all the investigation is over and police makes their statement before we judge. I want the truth to come out, not speculation base on others. I think things can be blow out of per portion by the media. I guess we will have to wait and see.

well you can either legalize everything and have controlled substances manufactured by people with pHd's in clean and secure laboratories in a controlled and regulated market. Or you can make it illegal, turn your back and twiddle your thumbs and pretend that the market isn't going to satisfy it's own demands with these dangerous un-controlled shenanigans. Really, what do you expect?

Even though other INNOCENT people could have been hurt due the actions of these low-life's with no regard to human life or respect for anything, there are many, many people in the city of St. John's and all over this country who will defend and pick up for these people and say things like "people should be able to do whatever they want even if it is having a drug lab in their home". I've heard it with my own ears....with no regard or thought to the people in the area who could have been injured. Bad enough they are now displaced from their homes because of some idiot but it could have been much worse.....I'm all for people having rights and doing as they please AS LONG AS THEIR ACTIONS DO NOT NEGATIVELY EFFECT OTHERS! I and other law-abiding people also have rights....the right to be safe in our neighborhoods! I am willing to bet I will get negative comments on this post....happens all the time when I defend the rights of the law-abiding, tax paying public who no longer want these scums in out neighborhoods taking ever and endangering our lives.....

Sounds consistent with someone cooking up drugs in the house! Flash fire results in ambulane and fire carting off the victim in the morning and by the time the afternoon rolls around the cops are involved because the Dr's are after getting it out of the victim, what caused the nature of his/her injuries.... City is out of control by!
