Robert Christopher Dyer, 40, one of the men arrested last year for alleged involvement in a break-and-entry ring that targeted construction sites, has been sentenced to three years in jail.

The sentence was handed down Monday, following a joint submission between lawyers in provincial court in St. John's during a sentencing hearing Friday.

Judge Greg Brown gave Dyer one-and-a-half times credit for the 405 days he's spent in custody, leaving a year and four months on his term.

Brown urged Dyer to continue getting help for his addictions issues while behind bars and to continue the progress he's made.

Stupid part of this story is the guy was arrested 13 months ago and only sentenced now? Hard to understand if a guy is called to court say today and there's an expression of guilt, why isn't he sentenced on the spot? Or why will his case be called again in a couple of weeks but this case took 13 months? Whole system needs it's oil changed.
