At about 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, a man with a stab wound made his way to police on Duckworth Street, asking for help.

According to a statement issued this afternoon by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), police were on patrol in the area when the 26-year-old man approached, saying he had just been stabbed.

The RNC noted his injuries were, “consistent with a stabbing and believed to be life threatening.”

The man was rushed to hospital from the scene.

Meanwhile, a police K9 team and forensic team were called to the area, along with specialists in major crimes.

Anyone with information that might help in the investigation is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Two things from a former George Street doorman: 1. George Street is a bad place after the Sun goes down 2. Nothing good ever happens after 2 am

When George Street was re-done several years ago it was toted as a place for families to go...Now it is a place of drugs, drunks, fights and ladies of.............. Why anyone would frequent that cesspool is beyond imagination. Just an opinion.

This didn't happen on george street! However as most ppl who do go to george st are aware that if you wait until the lights come on, if very well could be 345 before you hail a cab, it's happened to me many times, especially when I was bartending down there!

Dean, I doubt you have an exciting social life. Nothing is 'on the go' in any city, St. John's included, until close to midnight. Feel free to head out and be home by 1, but most of your night is going to be a sausage fest. I went home at 2:30am on Saturday morning and wouldn't count what happened after as a bad thing. She was pretty damn fun. There's next to nothing to do in St. John's BUT go out late. To expect that people stay home or be home at 1am is just silly.

You know that anything that happens after midnight is going to be a bad thing. Who in their right mind is on the go 3:45 in the morning. Have a few beers boys and in the bunk by 1 am. That should be enough for anyone.

So we are blaming the victim?! Not the guy doing the stabbing?

Sadly if the stabber is caught, which is doubtful, they'll only be charged with assault with a weapon and probably given a slap on the wrist. Stabbing someone and having them close to death is attempted murder in most places of the world, but not here?
