A 78-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a van near Grates Cove

The RCMP say the man was bicycling down Route 70 near Grates Cove around 3:25 p.m. Monday. While making a turn in the road, the rider was struck by a mail delivery van. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police say alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash which is still under investigation by Trinity Conception RCMP and Traffic Services unit.

The man’s name has not been released.
