Old church destroyed by fire

A 158-year-old church in Western Bay that was undergoing renovations was completely destroyed by fire early this morning.

Trinity Conception District RCMP responded to the fire call about 3:45 a.m. There were no injuries in the fire.

The RCMP, along with the Fire Commissioners Office, are still on the scene and the investigation is still ongoing.

I hope the person/s involved with this horrible act of arson are caught and prosecuted. It doesn't matter what religion you are, burning down a church is absolutely disgraceful and hatred. People put their blood, sweat, and tears into renovations to help keep this church in their community as an historical piece of history for everyone to be able to visit, use, and take pride in. It's sad that some people have no regard for history and the importance of its preservation. I feel sorry for the people who really put their heart into a project that has now been ruined. It's also sad people lost irreplaceable family documents and bibles.
