The repair work for a major water leak on Austin Street has begun.

Paul Mackey, director of public works for the City of St. John’s, said this afternoon the contractor is onsite conducting some preliminary work to fix the leak.

He said the more than one million litres of treated drinking water is still flowing from the pipe and that’s why the area has been placed on high priority.

Mackey said it’ll take about two weeks to get it fixed and another couple of weeks to get the street back to normal.
