Premier Kathy Dunderdale said today the structure of the special debate to be held in the House of Assembly on Muskrat Falls will be similar to the 2002 Voisey’s Bay special debate.
Dunderdale was asked about Liberal Leader Dwight Ball’s recent proposal on the structure of the debate.
Ball would like to see MHAs debate the legislation from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with a two-hour break at lunchtime. Under the Liberals' format, there would be a one-hour question period instead of the usual half-hour, and all three parties would be able to call experts into the House of Assembly and cross-examine them to help inform debate.
Dunderdale noted the template for the 2002 Voisey's Bay special debate was set by the Liberals. That debate lasted three days, and the scope of the rules was not as expansive. There was no provision allowing for experts to be questioned by politicians.
A special debate of the House exists outside the confines of the standing orders of the House, and therefore all three parties need to agree to a set of special rules for the debate.

Ha ha ha ...good one...Oh energy 2041 please come and save us from the big bad muskrat falls project. give me a break...welfare? Fodd out of kids mouths? LOL now I know the naysayers are losing the battle. We will borrow about 4 billion dollars for muskrat, the same amount we spend on healthcare each year in this province.
