Premier Kathy Dunderdale said today the structure of the special debate to be held in the House of Assembly on Muskrat Falls will be similar to the 2002 Voisey’s Bay special debate.

Dunderdale was asked about Liberal Leader Dwight Ball’s recent proposal on the structure of the debate.

Ball would like to see MHAs debate the legislation from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with a two-hour break at lunchtime. Under the Liberals' format, there would be a one-hour question period instead of the usual half-hour, and all three parties would be able to call experts into the House of Assembly and cross-examine them to help inform debate.

Dunderdale noted the template for the 2002 Voisey's Bay special debate was set by the Liberals. That debate lasted three days, and the scope of the rules was not as expansive. There was no provision allowing for experts to be questioned by politicians.

A special debate of the House exists outside the confines of the standing orders of the House, and therefore all three parties need to agree to a set of special rules for the debate.

Voiseys Bay was funded by a private company while Muskrat Falls will be funded by us!!!!! How dare the Premier refuse the right to bring expert witnesses into the debate . We should have a provincial referendum after a debate with full disclosure and analysis by all parties and theexperts they should be allowed to bring in. Our future is at stake here and I don't want to see our province bankrupt!!!! Speak out before its too late ,its your right to know all the facts publically.

The PUB did not want these people looking over the Musk Rat Deal. This is disgusting. What going to happen to our people who cannot afford this Legacy. Our population is aging we have a great number of single parents, whats going to happen to all the people on social assistance. This government is taking the food out of our children mouths. A lousy three days to debate our future, this government is scary. I wake up every morning worrying about this project, I'm scared to death over this. Where is Energy 2041 INC. HELP.

LOL now I know the naysayers are losing the battle. We will borrow about 4 billion dollars for muskrat, the same amount we spend on healthcare each year in this province.

John boy, we did not elect the PC government to dictate to us either. Also my son, we did not elect them to do everything that they could in secret. The secrecy destroys any confidence we have in them dealing in our best interests. The sliding PC popularity in recent polls attests to that.Your rat pack style comments are not helpful. As to the comparison to the Voiseys Bay debate, the Voisey's had elements of giveaway and sweetheart electricity deals for the Long harbour facility which were further sweetened by the PC government-beyond that nothing compares with the risky, expensive, giveaway consumer disaster in the making that is being ushered in by the Muskrat project.

Good...we didn't elect the loser Liberals, we elected the PCs bya landslide. If we wanted the Liberals to dictate to us we would have elected them, however they have no leader, and are at 15% in the polls...losers...

Snippy today eh Tony? Tim? Which is it? Dunderdales refusal is only proof that this deal is a dog. The spending needs to stop now. This is destined to end in disaster for NL. Once this government is gone in the next election, only then will the damage of this finacial boondogle be exposed for what it was.

John! I so so agree with you! I just wish the government we elected would get on with it. They have our mandate until the next election and quite frankly the delays will cost more then the project!
