The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Saturday’s print edition of The Weekend Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded local coverage and Life & Times section.

• In a refreshing twist, beyond the clichéd replies rife with, “we’ll-work-hard-and-let-the-chips-fall-where-they-may,” Keith McCambridge stares at the wall of names comprising his training camp roster and offers a candid observation of his St. John’s IceCaps this season. “We want to push past what we did last year … And we want to win a championship.”

• The only moose Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers will be getting this fall is on the cover of their new book.

Neither Kevin Blackmore (Buddy) or Wayne Chaulk got a licence this year. The other feller in the popular Newfoundland music and comedy trio, Ray Johnson, doesn’t hunt.

• Former Telegram employee Jim Herder has a great line when he’s asked “where were you” when Henderson scored the winning goal in the 1972 against the Russians — “Seated about 20 rows behind Ken Dryden.”

• The first eight individuals and organizations to be inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame were announced Friday. “There’s a lot of different names out there that honour businessmen and things like that, but volunteers are the fabric of the community and there was nothing out there to honour them,” said Trudy Carlisle, executive director for the Volunteer Hall of Fame.
